Introduction

Established in 1974, Crewe and Nantwich Athletic Club prides itself on being a family orientated club that caters for all standards and ages from 8 upwards. We offer coaching, training and local and county competitions in all track and field events, road, cross-country, indoor and sports-hall athletics. Crewe and Nantwich Athletic Club is registered under England Athletics North West Region and in-turn is governed by UK Athletics.

Crewe and Nantwich Athletic Club prospers on the fabulous facility of the Cumberland Arena, Thomas Street, Crewe where qualified coaches are passionate about helping athletes from the South Cheshire area to reach their potential. Last year the Club celebrated 25 years of being at the Cumberland this year. (1981-2006). The Club recently won the prestigious BBC Community Club of the Year 2006 within the Cheshire and Warrington region and was a finalist in the BBC North West Community Sports Club of the Year 2006.

The Club has membership of around 250 athletes who share a love of running, jumping or throwing, with athletes from the junior and senior sections representing the Club, the County or in some cases their Country at major athletic events. The Club provides national level coaching for sprints, hurdles and endurance and has qualified coaches for all field specific events as well as catering for multi-eventers.

What are the benefits that Athletics can bring?

Athletics offers a variety of different events for you to try and enjoy. It is a great way to keep fit and stay in shape as well as gaining fun and enjoyment out of competing in the sport. The Club welcomes those that wish to take part in athletics competitively and improve their overall athletic development and performance.

Who can join the Club?

Anyone with a passion for athletics! The Club takes members from 7 years of age and upwards, regardless of ability but centred around those that wish to compete and improve their personal performance. The Club is in association with the Cheshire Academy of Integrated Arts who run a disability athletics club. The Club encourages athletes from a young age, as it is here that essential fundamental skills are gained. However, the Club acknowledges that it is never too late to take up athletics and welcomes all new members.

How do I join the Club?

Anyone interested in joining the Club, can either come to the Club and ask for information at the Club’s Registration Desk on training nights (Tuesday and Thursday 6.00pm to 8.30pm) or contact the Membership Secretary. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU MAY BE ASKED TO JOIN A WAITING LIST IN ANY AGE GROUP. The Club encourages athletes to take a first FREE TRAINING SESSION in the form of an ASSESSMENT SESSION with a coach to see if its right for them and for the coach to assess the athlete's ability ahead of if and when the athlete joins the Club. After that an athlete can join as a First Claim or Second Claim Member.

To become a Member, simply complete an Application Form and Payment Slip (available at Club Registration Desk) and return this with your payment to the Secretary. The benefits of becoming a Member mean a considerable saving on nightly training fees and an England Athletics Membership that allows the athlete to compete for the Club in any national competition (Track & Field, Cross Country, Road, Indoor and Sportshall).

Shortly after your membership is accepted by the Committee you will receive a Welcome Pack and confirmation of your EAA number. An EAA card is issued annually around May.

What do I need to know and do when I’ve joined the Club?

There are a number of things that a new Member needs to be aware of and to do; and in the case of Junior Members, there are also a number of things the parent or guardian has to be aware of and do. This is all aimed at ensuring that the Club can make the environment safe and legal for all its members particularly its junior members.

All Members (and in the case of Juniors their parent/guardian) should:-

  • Read, sign and return to the Club Secretary an Athlete / Parent Code of Conduct Form (contained in the Welcome Pack)
  • Advise the Club of any change in their details (addresses, emergency telephone, medical details etc. as they may occur)

All Members (and in the case of Juniors their parent/guardian) should know :-

  1. The Codes of Conduct for Athletes, Parents, Coaches and Club Personnel
  2. Where and when to check-in for training registration?
  3. Where to assemble just prior and after training?
  4. Who their coach / coaches for a training session are?
  5. Who the Club Welfare Officer is and who the deputies are?
  6. Who the Club First-Aiders are?
  7. What the Club Rules are and what the track and field etiquette is?

If in doubt ask a member of the Committee at the Club at any time.
